Abstract

Many EFL students face difficulties in speaking such as lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and pronunciation problems. Therefore, Project-Based Learning has emerged as alternative approach to overcome these issues by encouraging communication and interaction. This research aims to investigate students’ and teachers’ perceptions about the effect of project-Based learning (PBL) on the speaking skill in EFL contexts. It adopts a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 63 university students from different academic years and semi-structured interviews conducted with three Oral Expression (OE) teachers at the University of Ghardaia. The findings show that both students and teachers hold positive perceptions toward PBL. Moreover, the study reveals that PBL is an effective approach for improving speaking skills.
