Item Investigating the Implementation of the Competency Based Approach in Developing the Middle School Learners’ Reading Skill(جامعة غرداية, 2024) Mansoura, Bouamer; Yamina, HarrouziThe present study aims at studying the effects of the Competency-Based Approach on the learners' reading skill improvement , in other words, the role of the so called “Competency Based Approach “ in enhancing the middle school learners reading skill and the extent to which this could achieved in the Algerian EFL classrooms. To this end, a questionnaire was selected as a data collection tool and conducted in Metlili middle schools relying on middle school teachers. The data collected from this research were interpreted qualitatively and quantitavely.The findings were analyzed using SPSS software and revealed that some teachers do not adhere strictly to the principles of the CBA. Most of them are not teaching competencies but only content. Classes are teacher-centered and teaching reading in the foreign language context is less applied correctly by some teachers. CBA is an utter failure because of a cluster of reasons, lack of training (seminaries and conferences by inspector) in the new approach, crowded classes, the loss of ethical values, time allotted, lack of technological equipment, learners‟ lack of motivation towards learning the foreign languages.Item Developing Learners’ Reading Skills Through Practice in the EFL Classroom: the Case of 1st Year Licence Students at the University of Ghardaia(جامعة غرداية, 2024) Fatiha, BENATALLAH; Sabrina, ZAHOUANIDeveloping reading skills for EFL learners is a challenging task, and practice plays a vital role in enhancing these skills. This research focuses on the significance of practice in improving learners' reading abilities in the EFL classroom. Yet, students often encounter difficulties and obstacles that cause their reading failure.The study emphasizes the importance of teachers guiding students through consistent practice and the application of appropriate reading strategies. Therefore, this research raises the problem of to what extent reading practice strategies can enhance learners’ reading competence. It aims to provide effective strategies for successful reading instruction. The study depends on an experimental type of research through presenting a lesson to first year licence students at the University of Ghardaia. The quantitative approach is utilized by administering a questionnaire to 100 students.The findings indicate that via consistent engaging in regular reading practice, students can strengthen their comprehension, vocabulary, and overall language proficiency.Item Investigating the Effectiveness of Vocabulary Teaching Strategies in Developing Learners’ Reading and Writing skills in EFL Classes Case Study: Secondary Schools at Ghardaia Province(جامعة غرداية, 2024) YAMINA, BEN GHOCHI; NABILA, REZZAGThe aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the vocabulary teaching strategies used by secondary school English language teachers in improving and developing the reading and writing skills of EFL learners. This research has been conducted under a mixed method that combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The sample of this research was seventy students chosen randomly from different levels in Secondary Schools in Provinceof Ghardaiaas well as twenty-six teachers from public secondary schools in Ghardaia, Algeria at the academic year 2023/2024. The data was collected through two questionnaires that were administered to both students and teachers. The Findings revealed that both teachers and students consider vocabulary as an important factor in enhancing the reading and the writing skills. Listening is a crucial aspect of language acquisition, and the emergence of podcasts presents a new avenue for learners to develop their listening skills. By understanding EFL learners' attitudes towards podcasts, valuable insights can be gained into their preferences and help devlop effective listening strategies.This study was conducted at the University of Ghardaia with the first-year master students of English. A descriptive research was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Questionnaires were administered to 40 students, while interviews were conducted with 6 teachers. The results indicated that the majority of EFL learners are in favour of using English podcasts to develop their listening skills. The ability to express oneself fluently andeffectively in a second language is a key objective for language learners. In the context of language teaching, incorporating innovative platforms and technologies can significantly enhance the development of speaking skills among students. This study focuses on investigating the impact of the Free4Talk platform on enhancing the speaking skills of EFL students at the Centre of Intensive Language Training (CEIL) in Ghardaia. The experiment involved 14 participants and was conducted over a period of one month in an online setting. Free4Talk is a virtual platform designed to facilitate language practice and communication through interactive speaking activities, providing learners with opportunities to engage in real-time conversations and improve their oral proficiency .The findings of the study indicate that the participants experienced notable improvements in their speaking skills after engaging with the Free4Talk platform. Through regular practice and interaction on the platform, the students demonstrated enhanced fluency, vocabulary usage, and overall confidence in speaking English. The results suggest that integrating technology such as Free4Talk into language learning programs can be an effective strategy for promoting speaking skill development among EFL learners .this research highlights the positive impact of utilizing the Free4Talk platform as a tool for enhancing speaking skills in the EFL classroom. By leveraging innovative technologies to create engaging and interactive learning environments, educators can effectively support students in improving their oral communication abilities and achieving greater proficiency in the target language.Item Investigating The Use Of Monitor Hypothesis In EFL Oral Classes A Case Study Of Third Year Students Of English At The Department Of English Language At Ghardaia University(جامعة غرداية, 2023) Asma, LAROUI; Soumia, HADJ KOUIDERThe students of 3rd year English Licence at Ghardaia University often face some obstacles while speaking and that reveal itself during oral classes. Hence, this research aims to investigate the use of monitor hypothesis in EFL oral classes by seeking to promote it on them in as much as its effectiveness in teaching and acquiring knowledge. This thesis research is divided into two parts; theoretical and Practical. The theoretical one contains two chapters which provide the reader with a general review of second language acquisition and spot light on the application of monitor hypothesis in oral classes. And for the practical one, it includes one chapter, which analyses and interprets the collected data on the use of Monitor Hypothesis in EFL Oral Classes. The present study is limited to third year students and teachers of English at the department of English at Ghardaia University by using questionnaire. There sultsrevealthatmotivationhasa positive impact on learners writing competence where the students who were exposed to positive reinforcements produced well-written essays.Item Investigating EFL Learners’ Communicative Competence:A Comparative Study of Algerian Baccalaureate Foreign Languages Stream and CEFR Intermediate Level(جامعة غرداية, 2023) Anes, Bassaid Ouelhadj; Riad Lotfi, TazebinteEnglish language,like any other language, tends to fulfill communication between people. Therefore, Communicative Competence is crucial for effective communication. This study compares and investigates analytically the Communicat. This study compares and investigates analytically the Communicative competence in the Algerian secondary schools (ASS) 3rd year,and the CEFR intermediate level. We adopted the qualitative approach, in which structured interviews were conducted with 10 students and 10 teachers from both parties involved in this research study. Our study shows a remarkable difference in communicative competence between the ASS 3rd year EFL learners and CEFR intermediate EFL learners. We conclude that CEFR intermediate EFL learners are more communicatively competent, compared to ASS 3rd year EFL learners, due to the divergence in curricula, approaches to language teaching, and materials. We highly recommend that future research studies on this subject matter encompass larger samples for wider generalizability of results and findings.
