Abstract
paper analyzes the concept of governance and its evolution within
contemporary organizations. Initially developed in the field of corporate
governance, the concept has progressively expanded to various domains,
including public management and higher education institutions.
The objective of this study is to examine the theoretical foundations of
governance, analyze its main conceptual approaches, and identify the
mechanisms that structure decision-making processes within organizations.
Based on a review of academic literature and institutional reports, this
research highlights the transformations affecting governance models in
modern institutions.
Particular attention is given to university governance, which has become a
key issue in the transformation of higher education systems, especially in the
context of the knowledge economy. The analysis emphasizes the specific
characteristics of university governance as well as the challenges faced by
universities regarding autonomy, accountability, and institutional
performance.
The case of the University of Bejaia provides an illustrative example of
governance dynamics within the Algerian higher education system and
highlights the challenges related to improving institutional governance and
academic performance
