Abstract:
I touched on this in my research, which came under the title “Rulings on the
Istihala of Food Additives Extracted from Forbidden Sources,” and it is one of the
thorny and ambiguous topics of the jurists, as the memo included three axes:
The first defined Istihala in language, terminology, and related terms, as I
mentioned the doctrines of the forerunners regarding Istihala, and the sayings of
contemporaries about it. The second dealt with the definition of food additives,
addressing the sources of food additives, as well as the uses and objectives of food
additives. As for the third, we present examples of the Istihala of food additives
that may be protein like gelatin or enzymatic additives such as rennet, which are
contemporary applications of Istihala of impurity.
The memorandum concluded with a conclusion indicating the most
important results and recommendations that were reached..
