Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of tax digitalization on improving tax compliance, through a case study of the Tax Directorate of El Meniaa Province in Algeria. The study adopted the comparative approach as a basic analytical tool, comparing tax compliance indicators across two different time periods: the pre-digitalization phase (traditional paper system) and the post-digitalization phase (modern electronic systems). The comparison results showed a notable improvement in taxpayer compliance levels after implementing digitalization, with increased behavioral homogeneity among taxpayers. The comparison also demonstrated a strong correlational relationship between digital transformation and tax compliance. Nevertheless, the comparison revealed a remaining compliance gap attributed to technical and human challenges such as weak infrastructure, recurrent breakdowns, resistance to change, and lack of specialized digital skills
